Since 1947 when has been promoted NIHFI has supplied the Bulgarian pharmaceutical industry with key technologies from investigational to commercial levels.

In 1997 was celebrated the 50-th anniversary of the Institute.

Over 500 highly skilled specialists are working in NIHFI - engineers, chemists, pharmacists, physicians, biologists. In the Scientific Branch are working about 40 associate professors and 2 professors, 40 doctors and 2 doctors of science, 160 investigators. The Manufacture Branch consist of 4 pilot plants with significant capacity:

Synthesis, Biosynthesis, Chemical Purification and Isolation, Galenica. The Economical Branch ensures the effective work of the Institute.
